Case Study

Data Analytics, Visualisation & Business Intelligence

Turning complex data into actionable insights through interactive dashboards, geographic maps, and custom visualisation tools.

The Challenge

Organisations generate vast quantities of data but frequently struggle to extract meaning from it. Raw numbers in spreadsheets and databases tell no story on their own. Decision-makers need clear, interactive visualisations that reveal patterns, highlight anomalies, and support evidence-based action -- yet building these tools requires a combination of data engineering, design, and domain understanding that is difficult to assemble in-house.

The challenge is compounded when data comes from multiple sources in different formats, when it is geospatial in nature, or when it needs to be updated in real time. Off-the-shelf dashboards rarely fit the specific questions an organisation needs to answer, and bespoke development demands a team that understands both the data and the audience who will consume it.

Our Approach

Digital Tactics builds data visualisation solutions that start with the question, not the technology. We work with stakeholders to identify the decisions they need to make, the data available to support those decisions, and the context in which they will consume insights. From there, we design and build interactive tools that present complex information with clarity and purpose.

Our technical toolkit spans Python for data processing and analysis, JavaScript for rich client-side visualisations, and PHP for server-side data APIs. We have deep experience with geographic data, building interactive maps that overlay multiple data layers for spatial analysis. Where real-time data is involved, we architect streaming pipelines that keep dashboards current without manual intervention.

  • Question-driven design ensuring visualisations answer the specific decisions stakeholders face
  • Interactive geographic mapping with multi-layer spatial data overlays
  • Real-time data pipelines keeping dashboards current without manual refresh
  • Full-stack capability from data ingestion and processing through to polished front-end presentation

Projects & Clients

The Pipelines project for broadcast and media clients demonstrates our ability to process and visualise complex video metadata at scale, transforming raw AI analysis output into actionable editorial dashboards. Living Wage Map Britain turned national wage data into an interactive geographic visualisation, enabling users to explore living wage adoption by region and sector across the UK. Business Map Britain applied the same geographic approach to business data, creating a searchable, filterable map of enterprises.

Networks of Calculations brought mathematical and scientific data to life through interactive network visualisation, revealing relationships and dependencies invisible in tabular form. The Kyma/Celtic Sea Hub project combined environmental monitoring data with geographic visualisation for marine energy research, supporting evidence-based decision-making for offshore renewable developments. Across all of these projects, the common thread is transforming data that was previously inaccessible or opaque into tools that empower their users.

Results & Impact

  • Interactive maps and dashboards serving thousands of users across public, community, and commercial sectors
  • Geospatial visualisations enabling regional analysis of wage, business, and environmental data
  • Real-time data processing pipelines supporting editorial and research decision-making
  • Complex network and relationship data made navigable through interactive visualisation tools
