The Challenge

Television entertainment generates some of the most extreme and unpredictable traffic patterns on the web. When a live TV show airs to millions of viewers and invites audience participation, the accompanying website must absorb enormous surges of concurrent users within seconds. Traditional web infrastructure, designed for steady-state traffic, simply cannot cope with these broadcast-driven spikes without careful architectural planning.

The challenge is compounded by the sheer volume and variety of shows. A major production group may have dozens of active show websites simultaneously, each with different technical requirements, content management needs, and audience interaction features. The infrastructure must be scalable, cost-efficient during quiet periods, and rock-solid during peak broadcast moments when failure is not an option.

Our Approach

Digital Tactics has worked with Endemol Shine UK (now Banijay) for over 16 years, operating as the specialist digital delivery partner for their entire portfolio of production companies. Our approach combines deep entertainment industry knowledge with robust cloud engineering practices.

We designed and managed AWS cloud infrastructure with auto-scaling capabilities specifically tuned for broadcast-driven traffic patterns. Each show website was architected to handle sudden spikes from millions of viewers, with aggressive caching strategies, CDN distribution via CloudFront, and pre-warming procedures timed to broadcast schedules. WordPress served as the primary CMS across the portfolio, with custom PHP development for show-specific audience interaction features including voting, quizzes, and second-screen experiences.

Projects & Clients

Our work with Endemol/Banijay spans over 30 TV shows across their portfolio of production companies.
