What is ITEA?

ITEA (Information Technology for European Advancement) is a EUREKA cluster programme dedicated to software-intensive systems and digital services. Operating across more than 30 countries, ITEA brings together large industry players, SMEs, and research organisations to tackle major challenges in software innovation. Since its founding in 1999, ITEA has supported over 250 collaborative projects with a combined investment exceeding EUR 4 billion.

ITEA projects are industry-driven, meaning that participating companies define the research challenges and shape the project scope. The programme publishes annual calls for proposals around broad thematic areas including smart cities, healthcare, Industry 4.0, safety and security, and digital infrastructure. Each project typically involves 10-25 partners from multiple countries, combining the expertise of technology companies, systems integrators, and academic researchers.

How Digital Tactics Participates

Digital Tactics is an active participant in ITEA projects, contributing AI, software engineering, and data science expertise as a technical work package partner. Our role typically involves designing and implementing core software components, building machine learning pipelines, and delivering research outputs that advance the state of the art in applied software engineering.

• Technical delivery of AI and software engineering work packages within ITEA consortiums
• Proposal co-authoring and work package design for new ITEA project bids
• Integration of research outcomes into commercial products and open-source tools
• Dissemination activities including conference papers, workshops, and demonstrations

How UK Businesses Can Join

UK organisations participate in ITEA projects through Innovate UK funding aligned to ITEA calls. When an ITEA project is approved at the cluster level, each national group of partners applies for funding through their own national agency. For UK partners, this means submitting a parallel application to Innovate UK that covers the UK share of the project costs.

ITEA projects typically run for 3 years with total budgets of EUR 5-20 million across the full consortium. UK partners can expect to receive funding for 50-70% of eligible project costs depending on their organisation size. ITEA publishes one major call per year, usually opening in autumn with project starts the following year.
